Seems like quite a tough one. They both share the same engine and same horsepower figures but, which one would you opt for?
More info on both the cars - !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

M3...the proportions just look better IMO. And I like have back seats in case the kids want to go for a fun ride. :)

I'm partial yo sedans but the M4 is sexy. Tough choice, but I think I'd go M4.

Waiting for the M3.5

I'd probably go M3 myself. I like the idea of having a luxury sports sedan with a manual.

M3. Keep the bloodline pure. Also, more doors, for same engine/similar performance.

M3 for me.
It's a 4-door and has the iconic name.
I wonder how many people will put M3 badges on their M4's. Also, I can't wait for the M4 sedan to come out.

I definitely see the badge swapping happening.. it just makes sense and I would be the first to encourage it

M3 IS M4 sedan.

That sounds like common sense, but unfortunately you and common sense are wrong here :p
Just like the 5/6-series. The 6-series is supposed to be the coupe version of the 5-series sedan, and then BMW goes and releases a 6 sedan along with the other two! Yes, that includes an M6 sedan to go with the M5 sedan and M6 coupe (and the M5 wagon we unfortunately don't get)
There's no way BMW won't release a 4-series sedan, and there will most likely be an M4 sedan too.

Don't worry, an M4 sedan will probably be out next year.

There have been images of a 4 series gran coupe floating about so maybe M4 sedan is not so far of the mark.

I don't have any kids, not married, so M4.

M3 for me. Not because it's the old name, I really don't care, and the M4 is pretty sexy. But I dig the 4-door practicality in conjunction with the power. That's what the M brand is best at, ever since the first M535i.
It's also not helping that they're showing the sedan in that gorgeous blue.

I think you mean an M4 G ran Coupe.

Honestly, why is BMW making this so complicated? The 6-series I kind of understand as it has been separate model from 5-series and BMW wants to have coupe sedan a la CLS in their lineup but why they have to do the same with the rest of their lineup too?

This!
All they need is:
1-series
3-series
5-series
6-series
7-series
Z3/4
X-things

M2

I had to make this decision last year. I went with the E90 M3 sedan instead of the E92 Coupe. My reason wasn't researched, but it made sense to my mind: it "looks" like the coupe is a two door version of the sedan, instead of the other way around.
When I look at the E30 coupes and sedans the sedan "looks" like a modded version of the coupe. It seems like BMW designed the E30 to be a coupe, then tacked on two extra doors to create the sedan version. But the recent generations seem different.

I vote BMW officially change the name of the X cars to "X-Thing3", "X-Thing5", etc

Good reason!
Until you fall for a girl and marry her and/or knock someone up ;)

Then I can trade it in for an RS6 Avant.
Oh wait, I can't, because Audi hates the US. CTS-V Wagon it is!

It will have to be a used CTS-V wagon
I doubt there will be a new one ;(
